United Nations Academic Impact portal site open

The Japanese language portal site for United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), a global initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations, was launched on 20 October, 2011.

The new portal site (http://www.academicimpact.jp/) was produced by redesigning UNAI-related content on the UN Information Centre (UNIC Tokyo) website with the cooperation and support of Chuo University, one of the Japanese universities participating in UNAI. Universities participating in UNAI are invited to voluntarily upload information on their UNAI-related research and events through this portal site. Although most of the contents on the portal site is currently in Japanese, we plan to add English contents in the future and the universities participating in UNAI will be also encouraged to disseminate information in English.

UNAI, an initiative of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, started in 2009, and was officially inaugurated in November 2010. It is hoped that participating academic and research institutions, through development and research, will be able to contribute to the resolution of global issues facing the 21^st century in the fields of peace, development, and the protection of human rights. At the United Nations, the Department of Public Information (DPI) is currently promoting UNAI as part of its outreach activities.

There are approximately 700 universities from 108 countries around the world participating in UNAI (as of September 2011). In Japan, both Ehime University and Tohoku University joined the programme in September and October respectively, bringing the number of Japanese universities that have joined this global initiative to a total of 10. The Business-University Forum of Japan (BUF) is also participating in UNAI as a Partner Organization.

国連アカデミック・インパクト　ポータルサイトができました

国連と世界の高等教育機関とを結ぶ新たなパートナーシップ「国連アカデミック・インパクト（United Nations Academic Impact = UNAI）」の日本版ポータルサイトが、2011年10月20日（木）にオープンします。

新たなポータルサイト（http://www.academicimpact.jp/）は、国連広報センター（UNIC）のウェブサイトにあるUNAI関連コンテンツをリニューアルして制作されたもので、日本からのUNAI参加団体の一つである中央大学が、制作および運営にあたり全面的に協力しています。今後、UNAI参加大学はポータルサイトを通じて、研究活動や関連イベントの開催など、UNAIへの取り組みを自主的に情報発信していくことが期待されます。　現在このポータルサイトの使用言語は主に日本語となっていますが、将来的には、各大学が英語でも活動報告を発信するなど、英語のコンテンツも増やしていく予定です。

潘基文（パン・ギムン）事務総長のイニシアチブによってスタートしたUNAIの取り組みは、2009年頃より本格化し、2010年11月に正式に発足しました。平和、開発、人権擁護の分野において、学術・研究機関が開発や研究を通じ、21世紀の地球規模の課題解決に向けて貢献することが期待されています。現在は国連広報局（DPI）がアウトリーチ活動の一環として、UNAIを推進しています。

世界では108カ国およそ700大学がUNAIに参加しています（2011年9月現在）。日本からは9月に愛媛大学、10月に東北大学が相次いで参加し、計10大学がこのグローバルな取り組みに加わることとなりました。このほか、日本産学フォーラムがパートナー団体として、UNAIに関わっています。
