7/3（水）開催　報告書「国連ミレニアム開発目標（MDGs）2013」発表会（東京）

国連ミレニアム開発目標（MDGs）の達成期限である2015年が近づいています。グローバル経済・金融危機の影響にもかかわらず、MDGsの目標達成に向けた進展が多くの分野で見られます。とはいうものの、環境の持続可能性や妊産婦死亡率の改善など、十分な進展が見られているとは言い難い分野も多くあります。特に、最も遅れが目立つ地域では前進を一気に速め、最大限の前進を達成するため、なお一層の取り組みが緊急に必要とされています。国際社会は、これまでの実績を基に現在の勢いをさらに強めることで、2015年までにできるだけ多くの目標を達成し、すべての人にとっての前進を実現することが求められます。

スイスのジュネーブでは7月1日（月）、潘基文（パン・ギムン）国連事務総長が「国連ミレニアム開発目標（MDGs）報告書2013」の発表会を行う予定です。これに合わせ、東京の国連広報センター（UNIC）は、本報告書の首席執筆者である大崎敬子・国連統計部副部長（人口社会統計担当）をブリーファーに迎え、7月3日（水）、東京・渋谷の国連大学ビルにおいて、以下の要領で国内での発表会を行う運びとなりました。皆様のご参加をお待ちしております。

Launch of “The Millennium Development Goals Report 2013” in Japan

With the deadline for the MDGs on the horizon, progress can be reported in most areas, despite the impact of the global economic and financial crisis. That said, progress in many areas is far from sufficient, such as environmental sustainability and maternal mortality. Redoubled efforts are urgently needed, particularly in regions most behind to jumpstart advancement and achieve maximum gains. The international community should take pride in its accomplishments thus far, while building on existing momentum to reach as many goals as possible by 2015 and to realize gains for all.

On 1 July, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will launch the Report in Geneva, Switzerland. Following this global event, United Nations Information Centre in Tokyo will organize a local launch which comprises of two briefings – one in English and the other in Japanese – on Wednesday 3 July in Tokyo. Ms. Keiko Osaki-Tomita, Chief, Demographic and Social Statistics Branch, Statistics Division, who is the main author of the Report, will serve as the briefer in the Tokyo launch. UNIC Tokyo hopes that many of you will participate in this special occasion.
